Greater Flamingo

Apologies that the first of these photos is out of focus, but it was a surprise to see the flamingo on this part of the coast line just outside of Kuşadası, on the Aegean coast of Turkey.  So I had to get the shot, even if I was well beyond the range of my lens.  I have seen a large flock of them near Bodrum further down the coast, but this one was on its own.

The next day we saw the same bird just a couple of miles down the coast at a fish farm.  It appears that it had decided to have a holiday away from the crowds and had found a good feeding spot in the process.  When I took these shots he was busy preening himself, again he was a little bit distant but I was able to get a bit more detail of the beautiful pink colouration in his feathers.  The bird in the background is one of the many Moorhens that are resident at the fish farm.
